A conversation guide

LASIK self-check.
Start with good questions.

Prepare for a vision-correction conversation, with questions about your goals, prescription, eye health, and the trade-offs of treatment.

Read. Reflect. Discuss.

No score.
A better conversation.

This educational self-check helps you prepare for an eye examination. It is not a diagnostic test or a candidacy assessment. Open each question to learn why it matters; there are no answers to submit.

Nothing you consider here is sent to the practice, saved, or used to recommend a treatment. An eye examination and a conversation with your clinician are essential.

Questions to bring with you

Think about your everyday vision.

What would you like to change about using glasses or contacts?

Consider your work, hobbies, distance vision, and reading needs. Clear expectations are part of a useful consultation, and a procedure cannot guarantee freedom from glasses.

Has your prescription changed recently?

Bring your prescription history to the consultation. Prescription stability and your age affect the discussion; an online checklist cannot establish eligibility.

Do you have dry eye, other eye conditions, or previous eye surgery?

Tell your clinician about your eye health and treatment history. Corneal measurements, tear-film evaluation, and an examination are important before considering LASIK.

Have you considered the possible trade-offs?

LASIK can cause dry eye, glare, halos, or other visual difficulties; some complications can be persistent or serious. Glasses, contact lenses, another procedure, or no surgery may remain appropriate options.

Can you plan for preparation, healing, and follow-up?

Ask about contact-lens instructions before testing, time away from activities, follow-up visits, costs, and what happens if further care is needed. Follow the instructions your own clinician provides.

What comes next?

If you want to explore vision correction, arrange a consultation. Continue using prescribed glasses or contacts until your clinician gives you individual instructions.

Sudden vision loss, new flashes or a sudden increase in floaters, a curtain or shadow in your vision, or severe eye pain needs immediate medical assessment. Contact an eye-care professional or go to an emergency department now. Do not use this guide to decide whether to wait. For a medical emergency, call 911.
